WEATHER AND DUTY FREE.
The Weather on Tenerife changes considerably depending on your location.?The warmest climate can be found on the south and west sides of the island. But, if you go near El Teide, cold winds and snow wouldn’t be hard to find.?Tenerife features the lowest temperature ‘difference’ between summer and winter for anywhere in the world. Our weather occasionally includes rain, but there is no specific ‘rainy season’. Air conditioning is quite rare, with overhead fans usually providing sufficient air movement to stay cool, even at the height of summer. The minimum and maximum annual average air temperatures in Tenerife are about 15C in winter and 24C in summer. Therefore we enjoy wonderful weather in one of the world’s best and most delightful climates. The Island offers a surprising variety of micro-climatic weather zones, enabling people to almost ‘choose’ their climate, depending on where they live. The Trade winds, together with the refreshing Gulf air currents, are the major weather factors that contribute to Tenerife’s climate. The great altitude of Mount Teide gets up to three months of snow - yet it is still possible to enjoy a swim on the beach within an hour’s ride. The coastal areas enjoy the most sunshine, the best weather, the least clouds and highest temperatures.
Tenerife enjoys one of the world’s best and diverse climates normally found only on huge continents. All around the year, the fresh and humid Trade Winds wafting over the Canary Islands keep the temperatures down to an agreeably mild level of 22,3º C. The combination of these Trade Winds, the sea breeze and the refrigerant Gulf current produce warm but not suffocating Summers and temperate Winters, with temperatures between 17º C and 21º C.
This characteristic Canarian climate produces some unique situations: Snow falling on the hills,
while you may be enjoying the fantastic beaches like the Playa Las Vistas Beach.
SUN PROTECTION
Even if it’s overcast, the sun’s rays shine through and can burn easily, especially younger skins. Use high factors on the first few days, and really you shouldn’t ever go below a 4. Younger skins need a high waterproof protection, we recommend a 25, for the whole of the holiday. And while it seems a shame to waste the winter holiday sun, don’t spend all day in it and remember, the sun is at its strongest midday till about 3pm - avoid it if possible.
DUTY FREE
Remember that the Canary Islands, although part of Spain and, therefore, part of the EEC, operate along similar lines to the Channel Islands and because of this your personal duty-free allowance is as follows:-
200 cigarettes or 50 cigars or 250g smoking tobacco;
1L spirits over 22% or 2L spirits under 22%,
2L sparkling wine and 2L of any other wine.
£145 worth of other goods including gifts and souvenirs.
60 ml perfume, 250 ml eau de toilette
Beware some flights will not let Lighters on broad the plane.
It is much better and cheaper to buy these goods in your Resort rather than at the airport or on the plane.
